I am excited to work with Ranbir again: Deepika Padukone

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Deepika Padukone will be re-uniting onscreen with Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ for the first time since their break-up and the actress says she is looking forward to working together again.

The former couple, who met on the sets of their 2008 release ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, dated for a year before they split amid claims that Ranbir cheated on Deepika.

However, the 25-year-old ‘Love Aaj Kal’ actress insists that the two are very good friends and talk to each other often.

“I am really excited about the film, it is going to be real fun. Working with such a brilliant actor like Ranbir, that too in a love story, that’s the kind of film I always wanted to do. Moreover Ayan (director) is so young and talented and it was about time we did a film together. It is indeed great to be back with Ranbir in a film. Both of us were looking forward to a film that would justify our presence and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ has turned out to be one such film,” Deepika said.

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is being directed by Ayaan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. Its’ Mukherjee’s second film after Ranbir Kapoor-Konkona Sen Sharma starer ‘Wake Up Sid’.

Deepika insists that the film is very different from her past projects and will bring out a different side to her.

“The film is special since it would be directed by Ayan Mukherjee. He is a mutual friend of Ranbir and myself. He pretty much knew that he had to do something special to bring us together on screen. I am ecstatic since this is going to be a true blue love story with an old school romance to it. I have never worked in a film like this before,” said Deepika.

The actress, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Om Shanti Om’, later went on to do films like ‘Aarakshan’, ‘Karthik Calling Karthik, ‘Break Ke Baad’, ‘Lafangey Parindey’ and the latest ‘Desi Boyz’.

Talking about Ranbir’s achievements and success, she said, “I know how excited Ranbir was when he started off in the industry. He has put so much into his films and as a result his success means a lot to him. He is happy with the fact that his hard work has paid off.”

Having done a bit of experimental films like ‘Aarakshan’ and ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’, Deepika doesn’t feel that she should do only commercial films but wants to maintain a balance.

“Honestly, I don’t like to segregate films as commercial, middle of the road, art house, new age. I don’t wish to tell the audience either to leave their brains behind or bring them along. A film is a film after all. It’s only in India where segregation around commercial and art takes place. At the end of the day I am an entertainer and I should be able to entertain the audience in all films that I do. I do understand that there are certain kind of films that are appreciated only by niche audience while there are others which appeal to a larger number. The idea is to mix and match,” Deepika added.Agencies

Rockstar (Movie-Review)

News4u - Entertainment Desk :-courtesy toi -  Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor), a downtown boy in Delhi, gets into Delhi University, whiles away his time gobbling samosas in The Hindu College canteen.
And nurtures dreams of becoming another Jim Morrison. But before he can evolve on his creative journey and metamorphose into Jordan, the rockstar, he must experience life-altering love, heartbreak, self-discovery. The tumultuous voyage of the bohemian Haryanvi, Janardhan Jakhar to Jordan, the anguished artist….
Movie Review: Leave it to Imtiaz Ali to take a love story and present it in a manner that’s completely different from run-of-the-mill Bollywood. Romance, under his creative vision, becomes a multi-layered, sensitively nuanced, monumental experience which has more to do with serenading your soulmate rather than a stereotypical marriage partner. With intelligent entertainers like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal and now Rockstar, he is evolving as a new age Yash Chopra. Love literally smoulders under his narrative, albeit in a completely modern idiom.

The highpoint of Rockstar is it’s high tension, high-on-passion romance between two unlikely people: the completely low brow JJ who doesn’t like his girls nice and clean and Heer (Nargis Fakhri), the uptown Stephenian who is all set to get married and settle down to sweet domesticity like all sweet girls do. Their relationship begins when both of them display a yen for the wicked and wild side of life and ignite the bohemian lifestyle by watching a show of Junglee Jawani in a seedy Delhi theatre. Before she gets nice and clean, Heer wants to play real dirty and JJ is more than willing to play the rule-breaker rogue with her. Great bonding, which gets even greater when the two realise it’s time to kiss…. It is a love that transcends all social barriers, decimates all conventions and ends with a spiritual promise to meet in the field that exists beyond the concept of right and wrong (Rumi).

The fact that this romance unfolds on screen in the form of an explosive musical, capturing JJ’s transmutation into Jordan, the edgy artist, makes the film an absolutely engaging affair. The vocals by Mohit Chauhan, the lyrics by Irshad Kamil and the music by AR Rahman are stuff classics are made of. Of course, Sadda Haq is the youth anthem by now, but there are so many beautiful tracks in the film, you get heady and stirred. Ranbir Kapoor displays an amazing growth chart as a performer as he gradually changes from a two-sizes-too-tight jean-clad upstart to a musical genius seared by a love that threatens to scorch his very soul. Nargis Fakhri too stands tall as the delectable Heer who sizzles on screen with her unconventional ways. But eventually, the film is a milestone in Ranbir Kapoor’s career as an actor and a classic cut from the AR Rahman and Mohit Chauhan combo. Shammi Kapoor’s presence as the classical artist enhances the gravitas of the film.

Savour a beautiful experience. Watch Rockstar and wait for Imtiaz Ali’s next from his compendium of love.

Ranbir Kapoor’s 10 golden rules to stardom

News4u - Entertainment Desk :He may only be seven movies old in B-town, but his star status is such that directors are left queuing up to offer him work.Gulf News has revealed the 10 golden rulesRanbir Kapoor followed to make it big in Bollywood.

1. Roll with the punches: Ranbir’s surname didn’t quite prepare him for the fact that his first film ‘Saawariya’ was both a box-office and critical disaster. But the star remained undeterred, following up with ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ - in which he rehashed his dad’s famous movie song, and romanced not one but three women. Again the film failed to impress. Then 2009 proved to be the game changer with three back-to-back hits – ‘Wake Up Sid’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ and ‘Rocket Singh’ - which accelerated his star status.

2. Work with up-and-coming directors:Ranbir has shown himself willing to work with any director, as long as they come up witha great script and a challenging role.

3. Constantly reinvent yourself: Ranbir played the mushy romantic hero in ‘Saawariya’, an unapologetic Casanova in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, a soul-searching boy in ‘Wake Up Sid’, a wacky comic lead in ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’, a not-too-smart salesman in ‘Rocket Singh’, a stoic politician in ‘Raajneeti’ and a depressed guy in ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. This strategy ensured neither he, nor his fans, get bored.

4. Skip ‘hero’ projects for ensemble flicks: “As long as the script is good, I’m cool doing an ensemble film. When Raajneeti was offered to me, I didn’t know who else was in the film. An ensemble cast doesn’t scare me, I’m talented and I know I’ll give it my best shot, just like I do in my solo roles,” he once said.

5. Stay silent on your exes: Ranbir avoided mud-slinging even after Deepika Padukone spilled the beans about his wild ways on celeb talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’. The star also remained mum on his alleged fling with Kat on the set of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, because she was dating Salman Khan at the time, and he knew enough not to burn thoseB-wood bridges!

6. Wear your heart on your sleeve: When Ranbir hooked up with Dips, he didn’t shy away from playing the B-town love game, gushing about his girl at every opportunity.

7. Cultivate a cool Casanova persona: Having inherited a combination of gorgeous looks, talent, intelligence, mischief and class, Ranbir wields his charms in a good old-fashioned Casanova style.

8. Date the girls all the guys want: Ever since his much-publicised break-up with Dips, Ranbir has been paired off in the tabloids with any single actress or model on the block. While NargisFakhri has remained mum about their relationship, Angela Jonsson has been more forthcoming, saying, “Yes, I’ve dated Ranbir.”

9. Befriend your contemporaries: With B-wood all about the power plays rather than the friendships, Ranbir has shown he’s not of a cut-throat mindset, with the actor preferring to make pals with his peers.

10. Always stay a mama’s boy: A classic family-orientated boy, Ranbir is endearingly attached to his parents and sister Riddhima, and sweetly admits an admiration for his father’s films. SCREEN

Upset Rishi wants director to choose either Ranbir or Karan

News4u-Entertainement Desk-After the success of Ayan Mukerji’s directorial debut Wake Up Sid, it was pretty much certain that Ayan would once again be directing close friend Ranbir Kapoor and that too for a Karan Johar production. However, that seems highly unlikely now especially after an episode of ‘Koffee With Karan’ featuring Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone that has not gone down too well with Rishi Kapoor and his family members.

By now its common knowledge that both Rishi and Neetu Kapoor are mighty upset with Karan for the way he conducted that particular episode of ‘Koffee with Karan’. Now Rishi has even gone ahead and given young Ayan an ultimatum that he either chooses to work with Ranbir or Karan. Ayan was instructed in clear terms that if he wishes to direct Ranbir he will have to find another producer.

Rishi has even gone on record and said that his family of Kapoors will not work in any Dharma production film as of now. While Karan is known to play mediator to many fights within the film industry, it remains to be seen who will play mediator this time around in this big fight.screen

Deepika, Sonam a case of sour grapes: Rishi Kapoor

News4u - Entertainment Desk : ‘Koffee With Karan’ is certainly making a lot of noise in the media. Always known to be a show that reveals more than expected, the show’s recently started third season has ruffled a few feathers more than necessary.

The third episode that featured Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone has attracted a lot of attention, not only due to a lot of tongue in cheek remarks and revelations, but also because the Kapoor clan did not take too kindly to it.

It so happened that Deepika and Sonam, who had once been involved with Ranbir Kapoor, took a lot of pot shots at him through the show. Sonam, who has been Ranbir’s childhood friend and also debuted opposite him in Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Saawariya, said she does not find him sexy, even though she caught a peak of him in the buff. Claiming he needs a stylist, Sonam also commented that he is a great friend but cannot be a good boyfriend. She was surprised how Deepika had remained in a two year long relationship with him.

Deepika also went all the way to take Ranbir’s case, remarking that he should endorse a condom brand and that he needed work on his boyfriend skills. She also believed that Ranbir wasn’t sexy and was overall glad that their relationship did not work out.

The constant jibes and jokes passed on Ranbir did not go down too well with Ranbir’s parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, who were hurt. Though Neetu Singh was on a holiday abroad, when she heard about the comments through a well wisher, she decided to talk to Karan about it.

Meanwhile, Rishi was fuming and thought that Karan had instigated the girls into giving such comments to increase the TRPs of the show. He claimed that the while the Kapoors had gone on his show is out of pure love and respect, he had backstabbed them by coming out with anepisode in such light. Rishi candidly said that if this is the way KJo plans to behave, all ties will be severed between the Kapoors and KJo.

As far as the girls go, Rishi Kapoor felt that their comments were a case of sour grapes. His advice to them is to stop giggling so much and poking fun at people and instead concentrate on their careers.

Karan on the other side claims that he isn’t aware if anyone is upset, at least Ranbir isn’t as he understands the vibe of the show and all is cool.

Deepika and Sonam passed a lot of comments on Ranbir on the talk show Koffee with Karan.

I will compete with Ranbir for best actor award: Rishi Kapoor

News4u - Entertainment Desk : “This year, I will be competing with Ranbir Kapoor in the Best Actor’s category,” remarks Rishi Kapoor with trademark cheeriness. Well, the actor has reason to be chuffed. Do Dooni Chaar, directed by newcomer Habib Faisal and about a teacher Mr Duggal (Rishi Kapoor) and his family— their dream is to graduate from a scooter to a car—has received glowing reviews.

Kapoor, while excited with the film and the interesting work coming his way, is not exactly thrilled with all the film promotion activities that a release entails. “I hate to speak of my own work. In my days, as actors, we acted in the films and moved on — now one has to travel to different towns to promote the movie which I find very tiring.”

He admits he was impressed by Faisal’s script about the disregard and indifference shown to teaching, one of the noblest professions. But what impressed him even more was the fact that Faisal wanted him to play the hero! His favourite teacher, he admits, was his father Raj Kapoor who he describes as an institution. The film also brings him back with wife Neetu Kapoor, who he recalls, was very nervous but went on to do a fine job with her role.

“We play husband and wife and Neetu has done a very fine job, but it’s not really a romantic role.”

Considering Kapoor was the face of young love for two decades in Hindi cinema, it is surprising that he does not miss the romantic roles.

“Romantic films need young faces. I have done a few movies about romance between people who are older but those are exceptions. However, I must say that my stay as a romantic hero was substantial.”

Recently, there was a retrospective of his films in South Africa to mark the occasion when the first Indian stepped on to the African soil 150 years ago! His only regret was that Love Aaj Kal could not be screened as Eros, the producers for the film, wanted a certain fee for it.

Meanwhile, the accolades are pouring in for his outing as an aam aadmi in Do Dooni Chaar and if the glowing reviews are anything to go by, he may just end up giving son Ranbir a chase in the awards stake!

I’m fond of Ranbir: Deepika

News4u - Entertainment Desk : Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor ended their relationship and went their separate ways last year, but the actress still wants to work with her ex-beau as she is “very fond” of him.

“Ranbir is someone I’m very fond of, I’m really looking forward to working with him because I think we have not worked enough together,” the 24-year-old actress told reporters here at an event to launch the bridal edition of the Marie Claire magazine where she is on the cover.

Deepika and Ranbir were last seen in “ Bachna Ae Haseeno“.

Talking about how she got over her break-up, Deepika said: “I think everyone has a different way of dealing with it. Some people immerse themselves in work. I feel everyone has a certain strength within themselves to come out of any situation whether it’s a break up or anything else. So, as long as you believe in yourself, you can challenge anything.”

When asked about what helps her in coming out of painful moments or problems in life, the actress gave credit to her positive thinking.

“My support system like my family and friends play a major role. Apart from that I’m also someone who is very positive. I don’t give up very easily and I think that’s my strongest point,” she said.

So what is the kind of guy Deepika would like to tie the knot with?

“He needs to be my friend most importantly, a great companion, someone with whom I can spend the rest of my life, someone I can make good conversations with and also someone who understands my silence as well.”

“He should accept me with all my flaws. So it’s not just about romance, it’s also about the layers of romance that one feels,” she said.

And what kind of a wedding would she like?

“As girls, we all dream of this typical fairytale wedding, that’s what I hope for. The colour that I would go for, presently I’m very confused about that. But definitely I’ll go for an Indian wedding. However, I’m not getting married for another eight-10 years,” Deepika said. (TOI)

Anjaana Anjaani (Movie-Review)

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Courtesy TOI-: Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) meet on a bridge in Manhattan under unfavourable circumstances. They both are trying to throw themselves down in a suicidal bid, being unable to cope with the hurdles of life any longer. But jump, they can’t, and end up together in a pact which sees them spending twenty days together before they take the final plunge. So what happens in those twenty days? A road trip to Vegas, followed by loads of wish fulfilment…. More importantly, are they able to carry off the suicide pact? Keep guessing.

Movie Review: They meet as strangers in the night…. The possibilities are immense. Is director Siddharth Anand able to leverage this great opportunity and tell an engaging story about two people who find life and love on the threshold of death? Errr, umm, well, he does, but partially so.

Let’s get things straight. By and large, we have no complaints with that critical quotient called chemistry. The new pairing of Ranbir and Priyanka manages to create some wild and whacky moments on screen as they romance each other with the archetypal yuppie attitude. The relationship begins on an antagonistic note and then shifts into a whole new terrain of quirky need. The two need each other to help each other die! So you have a handful of delightful scenes where the duo fumble and falter in their bid to asphyxiate each other by tying plastic tape on each other’s faces. Doesn’t work; so they decide to defer the death plan by a few weeks and fill the rest of their days with crazy stuff…. Like swimming in the middle of the Atlantic in sub zero conditions or finding a suitable partner for Ranbir who is desperate to officially come of age, before curtain call. In between all this fun, there’s a bit of the crying game too, as the duo recall their sob stories that actually precipitated the suicidal frame of mind. Predictable stuff: Priyanka’s heartbroken, Ranbir’s recession struck. Never mind that too, because the twosome actually manage to look good, feel good and spar good, together.

We also have no problems with the performances. Ranbir’s Akash and Priyanka’s Kiara are recognisable, urbane, upcountry characters who interestingly follow alternate rhythms in the film. While the first half sees Priyanka play the funster with reckless aplomb to a moony Ranbir, the second half has Ranbir trying to spread good cheer in a going-downhill Priyanka. Both the actors pitch in a vibrant, spontaneous and a finely nuanced performance as the NRI chokras who get sozzled in Manhattan and party hard in Vegas, with nothing to lose but their cares.

So where’s the problem yaar? It’s in the script and the narrative. The director chooses to use the format of a road movie to weave his romantic story. Only, the road seems to be a bit long and too straight. There aren’t too many twists and turns in this cross-country cruise; and the ones that are there, are quite-quite predictable. You know them all, because you’ve seen them all umpteen times, post DDLJ’s Euro rail cruise. So, despite the fire and crackle of the lead characters, Anjaana Anjaani doesn’t actually set the screen on flames. All it promises is some fun moments, a peppy music score by Vishal-Shekhar, alluring performances by Ranbir and Priyanka.

Don’t go looking for something new. And you will enjoy it.

I hated watching mom’s films as a kid: Ranbir Kapoor

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Bollywood’s blue-eyed boy Ranbir Kapoor admits he never liked watching Neetu Singh’s films when he was a kid as he felt protective of his mother.

“I used to feel bad watching my mom onscreen when I was a kid. I used to think she is my mother and no one should be judging her. I felt very protective of her,” said Ranbir.

Neetu gained early fame in her life as a child artiste and subsequently as leading lady in films like ‘Khel Khel Mein’ and ‘Rafoo Chakkar’. She retired from the silver screen at the age of 21 after marrying actor Rishi Kapoor.

The 52-year-old actress is now making a comeback with her husband in ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ and Ranbir is all-excited about watching his parents together once again.

“Since I never could enjoy her films as a child, I am thrilled that she is making a comeback and I will get to watch my parents together on screen,” said Ranbir.

The 27-year-old actor, who earlier dated Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, said he will never force his wife to leave showbiz in case he gets married to an actress.

“I will let my wife act if she wants to. My mother voluntarity gave up acting as she wanted to concentrate more on family life. But I understand how this industry works now and I will definitley not force my wife to give up her career,” said Ranbir, who was in the capital recently to promote his upcoming release ‘Anjaana Anjani’.

The actor also said he is waiting for an opportunity to share screen space with his parents as well as his cousin, actress Kareena Kapoor. “I would love to work with my mom and dad, I am just waiting for the right script to come our way. I would also love to work with Kareena, if a film with cousins ever gets made,” said Ranbir.
