Lindsay Lohan found unconscious in hotel room

News4u-Entertainment Desk : Troubled star Lindsay Lohan, who is shooting the Elizabeth Taylor biopic “Liz & Dick” these days, was found unconscious in her hotel room.

Paramedics were called for her rescue after producers failed to get hold of the 25-year-old actress but they left after finding nothing medically wrong with her, reported E! online.

Lohan’s representative has blamed lack of sleep and dehydration for the actress’ health scare on June 15 and said she will resume shooting today.

“Lindsay has been working a gruelling schedule for the last couple of days. Last night she worked from 7 pm to 8 am. She was exhausted and went back to her room to sleep.

“Producers were apparently concerned and called the fire department and paramedics found her sleeping but determined that she was fine, just extremely exhausted and slightly dehydrated. She is on her way home now to rest and will be back on set later today,” Steve Honig, Lohan’s representative, said.

Lohan’s mother, Dina, has also assured fans the actress is doing well.

“She’s fine! Long days but she is doing an amazing job,” she said.

The incident occurred exactly one week after Lohan was involved in a car crash with a large truck in Los Angeles.PTI

Bollywood to Hollywood: Indian actors chase dreams

News4u - Entertainment Desk : From Spiderman to Mission Impossible, Bollywood actors are increasingly finding their way into mainstream Hollywood films.

As Hollywood brings more Indian and Asian characters into its stories, established stars in India are now looking for a career in the West, hoping to make it big in an industry Bollywood looks up to for inspiration.

Slumdog Millionaire actor Anil Kapoor has landed a role in the next Mission Impossiblefilm, while Irrfan Khan, who worked with Angelina Jolie in A Mighty Heart, has bagged roles in both the next Spiderman film and Ang Lee’s forthcoming Life of Pi.

Success is not limited to the men. BipashaBasu, who as one of Bollywood’s most popular leading ladies also has her eyes set westwards, has won a role in Academy Award winning director Roland Joffe’s next film, Singularity.

The Indian audience is increasing every day, not just in India, which is one of the fastest growing movie markets, but also in the US, said casting director Uma D’Cunha, who helped Joffe zero in on Basu.

Indian audiences would watch a Hollywood film with a Bipasha Basu, rather than one that doesn’t have an Indian connect, she added, referring to both Indians in their homeland as well as the Indian diaspora.

An actor would be unable to balance a flourishing career in India with one in Hollywood, especially since it would be tough to shuttle between Mumbai and Los Angeles.

Chopra also said that while the growing Indian market will mean that there will be more roles for Indians in mainstream Hollywood, the scope of these roles will remain limited.

Indian actors have made sporadic appearances in Western films, but most of them have been bit parts in films that didn’t really gain attention.

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, a Bollywood superstar, acted in a couple of films, as did several other mostly male stars such as Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri, but none garnered much acclaim.

While the big 2009 Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, which was released in 2008, changed things a bit by ensuring that the West looked at India for stories, and Indian actors got noticed, plum roles for Indians in Hollywood remain illusive.

Frieda Pinto has bagged top roles, first in Slumdog Millionaire and then Woody Allen’s You will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger and Juliet Schnabel’s Miral. Pinto also has endorsement contracts and is working on three more Hollywood films, with actors such as Antonio Banderas and James Franco, but industry observers including Chopra pointed out that she didn’t have much of a career in India to begin with.

But limits remain. In this year’s big hit The Social Network, director David Fincher chose British actor Max Minghella to play the role of an Indian character.

Indian born US comedian Asif Mandvi, who played the lead role of an Indian chef in Today’s Special, believes there are more roles for Asian actors than before, but admits that ethnicity will always be a roadblock.

“Right now it’s a post 9/11/Obama/Slumdog Millionaire world and even though India is becoming a major economic power in the world, we should not got too carried away”, he said.

The roles of Indians in Hollywood are still fairly stereotypical for the most part. REUTERS

Demi Moore campaigns against sex trafficking

News4u Entertainment Desk-Hollywood actress Demi Moore is spearheading a campaign against child sex trafficking and met with lawmakers at the White House to discuss the issue.

The ‘Ghost’ star launched ‘Demi and Ashton (DNA) Foundation’ with her husband Ashton Kutcher to raise awareness of the harrowing subject and to help survivors of abuse, People magazine reported.

The 47-year-old actress speaking at a briefing on Domestic Sex Trafficking of Children, called for harsh punishments for offenders, as well as more leniency and support for youngsters coerced into prostitution.

“I think many Americans are more willing to accept that girls are being trafficked in Cambodia and can’t imagine it’s happening right here… It’s more profitable and less risky to sell a girl than drugs. Demand for prostitution fuels sex trafficking. And I think clearly our system isn’t working,” Moore said.

After her talk at Capitol Hill, she visited the White House along with three female sex abuse victims, to discuss human trafficking with senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

“Appreciated the opportunity to participate today in a Congressional briefing to end Child Sex Slavery in America!,” Moore wrote on Twitter after her visit.

‘Hollywood stars are more professional’

News4u-Entertainment Desk-From stars like Shakira and Britney Spears to our very own Hrithik Roshan, dancer-turned-choreographer Sandip Soparrkar has worked with them all and feels that Hollywood stars are far more professional in their work.

While an international star would rehearse for days before filming a dance sequence, our Bollywood celebs are far too busy to dedicate that amount of time, Soparrkar said.

“The professional level is much higher in Hollywood. I was working with Penelope Cruz for the musical ‘Nine’ and she rehearsed for almost 12 days for a 22-second piece. So the level of dedication is much more. Sometimes a Bollywood star would just come on the sets and perform,” Soparrkar said.

According to him, it is easier choreographing for a film in Hollywood than here, as the one has to concentrate only on the dance and not worry about the shots.

“Every shot is broken up more precisely in a Hollywood film, you know what the dance is going to look like. There the choreographers only handle the dancing, but here they also have to worry about camera angles and positioning,” he said.

The choreographer, who specialises in Latin American ballroom dancing, is juggling between Bollywood and Hollywood these days. His latest release would be ‘Kites’ which stars Hrithik, Kangna Ranaut and Mexican actress Barbara Mori.

“I am really excited and looking forward to the film. Hrithik is a superb dancer. Only thing Mr Rakesh Roshan told me before we started working was - ‘Hrithik is playing a choreographer in the film, you are one in real life, so make him look like yourself’,” said Soparrkar.

“But the biggest surprise in the film is Kangna. People have never seen this side of her. They have always seen her doing a mad role so they don’t know what she would look like in something like this. She has amazed me and I am sure that she would amaze the viewers as well,” he added.

Sandip will be next making actress Priyanka Chopra dance to his tunes in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’.

“We haven’t started working yet on Saat Khoon Maaf, I just had one conversation with Priyanka. I have done one ad with her before, she is a beautiful dancer,” Soparrkar said.

Just like other established choreographers in the country, Soparrkar also has judged a few realityshows. He is currently a part of a kids dance contest ‘DID Li’l Masters’ on Zee TV alongwith director Farah Khan.

“Apart from the regular stuff that you see in any dance contest, this show will come up with some authentic dance forms and that’s why I am here. We have a segment in the show dedicated to a particular dance form,” he said.

Crowe supports royal reign in Australia

News4u Entertainment Desk-Hollywood star Russell Crowe has rejected calls from his fellow countrymen in favour of Australia becoming a republic, insisting that he supports the reign of Queen Elizabeth II down under.

The ‘Gladiator’ star was born in New Zealand and grew up in Australia. The British queen is the crowned sovereign of both countries as part of the Commonwealth of Nations, formally the British Empire.

In the recent years several Australian politicians have called for a nationwide referendum to decide whether the country should sever its ties with royalty and become an independent republic.

But the 46-year-old actor insisted that the act of rejecting royalty would go against Australia’s traditions -and has praised the monarch for her “gracious” behaviour, reported Sun online.

“I am an English speaking man. You can call me a Kiwi or you can call me an Aussie but my family history on both sides is British and it goes back a long way. And one of the things that goes with being British is the factual tradition that the monarchy is in place,” said Crowe.

“When you are talking about Queen Elizabeth, I don’t think there is a more gracious world leader. I’ve met both Charles (Prince of Wales) and Andrew (Duke of York) and they were both intelligent and kind men,” he added.
