India welcomes UN assurance to take up Lakhvi release issue

News4u-News Desk- India has welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s assurance of taking up the issue of Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi’s release at its next meeting, and questioned Pakistan’s “sincerity” in the matter.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said the international community is united in the fight against terror and any act by Pakistan to defy the spirit will be condemned by all.

He said New Delhi had sent a clear message to Islamabad that it is not happy with the way Lakhvi case is being handled. Rijiju said the Pakistani government did not produce the facts against the Lakhvi in the court properly which led to his release from jail.

Earlier, a committee of the UNSC has assured India that it will take up the issue of Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi at its next meeting.

India had expressed concern that Lakhvi’s release from a Pakistani jail violates the provisions of the United Nations. The next meeting of the committee is expected to take place in the next few days.
