Sylvester Stallone supported Ronda Rousey through ‘Expendables 3′

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Los Angeles: Mixed Martial Arts expert Ronda Rousey, who stars in ‘Expendables 3’, says Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone took her under his wings and helped her sail through the film`s shoot.

‘The Expendables 3’ is gearing up for release in August, and recalling the time when she was cast by Stallone, she confessed that when she felt clueless about what she was doing and was confused, the veteran actor came to her rescue.

“Sly really took me under his wing. I know it was a gamble to bring me on to the film; he wrote the script, and there were bigger names thrown into the pot. But he believed in me from the beginning even though I felt like I was embarrassing myself on set,” Rousey said in an interview to thehollywoodreporter.com.

“Sly told me, `Don`t ever be embarrassed. You`re just playing. Some people take this stuff too seriously. We`re really just playing pretend, and they pay you money for it`,” she added.

The world premiere of `The Expendables 3` will take place in London. It will release Aug 15.

It stars names such as Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Kelsey Grammer, Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

NC, Congress to go it alone in J-K Assembly polls

News4u-News Desk-The NC-Congress coalition in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday hit the rocks as the two parties announced that they will go it alone in the Assembly polls in the state due later this year.

Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni and Saifuddin Soz announced in Jammu that the party will fight the the forthcoming Assembly elections alone and will not enter into any pre-poll alliance.

“After extensive talks with Congress leaders and workers at all levels, the party has come to the conclusion that we are going to fight the forthcoming Assembly elections on our own strength”, Soni, General Secretary AICC and in-charge of J&K Congress, told reporters.

“We will put up candidates or support some of the traditional alliance candidates on all the 87 seats in J&K alone”, she said.

Minutes later, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is working president of National Conference, took to social media to announce that he had informed Congress President Sonia Gandhi 10 days ago that there will be no pre-poll alliance in the state.

“I met Mrs Gandhi 10 days ago & thanked her for all her support. I conveyed NC’s decision to fight the elections alone,” Omar said on Twitter.

He said he explained the reasons to the Congress president for not entering into a pre-poll alliance “but also told her I wouldn’t be making a public announcement because I didn’t want it to look opportunistic”.

“For it to be spun now as a Cong decision is wrong & a complete distortion of the facts, not surprising but incorrect nonetheless,” he added.

Soni, who was flanked by Azad and JKPCC chief Soz, said, “Most of the wokers and leaders of Congress wanted us to go alone in elections”.

The votes in Lok Sabha elections were not transferred to each other resulting in the debacle, she said, adding, “There was not much of help that came from our alliance partner in previous elections”.

Azad said the party wants to emerge as the single largest party in the state and it will focus on completing pending projects in the state.

National Conference and Congress entered into a post-poll alliance following a hung verdict in the 2008 Assembly elections in the state.

Rains lash Uttarakhand; Yatra suspended

News4u-News Desk-The incessant rains in Uttarakhand have resulted in stalling of the Char Dham yatra, the rains and landslides have damaged the roads at several places with vehicles being stranded for hours.

The state government has therefore suspended the pilgrimage till July 22 to Yamunotri Gangotri and Badrinath The Kedarnath pilgrimage would remain suspended till July 23

A woman was buried alive last evening under rubble brought over by a landslide in Ukhimath in Rudraparayag district while an old man was killed as a cowshed collapsed at Lohaghat in Champavat district, Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre said.

Two persons were swept away by the strong currents of two different rivers at Rikhnikhal in Garhwal and at Sultanpatti in Kumaon region, according to a release issued by the Disaster Management authority.

Intermittent rains in most districts have brought mud and slush on to the highways leading to the chardhams, prompting authorities to ask devotees bound for Badrinath to stay put in Joshimath and those for Kedarnath to remain in Sonprayag till the weather improves and the yatra is officially resumed. With Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri highways blocked at nearly half a dozen places many villages of Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts remain cut off, it said.

Devotees headed for Gaumukh in Uttarkashi district are not being allowed to go beyond Gangotri as heavy rains in the higher reachescould trigger landslips along the trek route to the point where the Ganga originates, Uttarkashi District Magistrate S Ravishankar said.

All the major rivers across the state including Ganga, Bhagirathi, Alaknanda, Mandakini, Kali, Saryu and Sharda are in spate but still flowing below the danger mark. However, people living close to the banks of these rivers have been asked to evacuate to safer places as a precautionary measure.

Gola, Nandaur and Kosi rivers in Kumaon region are also on the rise with incessant rains prompting authorities to ask people living in their catchment areas to evacuate to safer places.

The MeT department has predicted light to moderate rain atmany places in Uttarakhand and rather heavy rainfall at a few placesespecially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Almora and Pauri districts Sunday.

Blinded by rage, AP school Principal thrashes students, arrested

News4u-News Desk-Shocking video clips of a school Principal mercilessly caning “indisciplined” visually challenged boys in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district sparked a public outrage with the police on Monday arresting him and another school official.

The incident, which took place two days back, came to light on Monday after local TV channels aired a video footage of the Principal, identified only as Srinivas - who is visually challenged - thrashing three boys of a private school for the blind with a stick in Kakinada town, police said.

The footage also showed the Principal pushing one of the boys to the wall with the help of the private school’s Secretary K V Rao.

Srinivas and Rao were arrested on the basis of complaints of parents of the students, who suffered injuries, Neetu Kumar Prasad, East Godavari District Collector said.

The district administration has temporarily taken over the management of the school, she said.

The Collector, who along with senior district officials visited the school, run by a charitable trust, ordered an inquiry.

“Once an inquiry report is submitted we will take necessary action against those involved in the incident,” Kakinada Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) B R Ambedkar.

According to preliminary information, the Principal thrashed the students for their “indiscipline”.

The Principal was enraged as the students reportedly did not pay heed to his instructions and those of the secretary, and used to create disturbance in classes, a local police officer said.

The three boys, aged 9 to 13 years, are studying in Std 3 and 6 and hail from East Godavari and adjoining Guntur districts.

They were admitted to a nearby hospital Monday afternoon for treatment, he said.

Modi tells BJP workers to work for ‘Cong-free’ Maharashtra

News4u-News Desk- Ahead of Maharashtra Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday gave a pep talk to party workers in Mumbai, telling them that they should go to the people with confidence and work unitedly for “Congress-free” state.

Addressing a gathering of party workers here, Modi referred to the recent Lok Sabha elections and said that for the first time a non-Congress government had got the mandate which has raised the hopes of people.

“For the first time, non-Congress govt got majority. After the BJP-led government took over, people have a feeling that the country is going forward,” he said.

Internationally also, there is hope with regard to India, he said.

BJP, led by Modi, won a landslide mandate in the Lok Sabha elections held in April-May.

“In Maharashtra vidhan sabha elections, the party should go ahead with confidence of victory. The confidence of the BJP cadres in BJP is in tact,” the Prime Minister said.

“All workers should be united for Congress-mukt (Congress- free) Maharashtra,” he said.

Assembly elections in Maharashtra are due in October.

Taliban suicide attack kills four foreigners in Kabul compound

News4u-News Desk- A Taliban suicide attacker riding a motorbike killed at least four foreigners in a compound in Kabul on Tuesday, police said, in the latest blast to rock the capital during an impasse over presidential election results.

The attack hit close to the outer perimeter of Kabul airport, which was targeted last week when insurgents seized a building in the same area and fired towards the airport using automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades.

The Taliban opposes the election process, which is currently undergoing an audit of all eight million votes due to a dispute between the two contenders over fraud allegations.

“Our initial reports show the explosion took place inside the foreigners’ compound four foreigners were killed and six were wounded,” Kabul police chief Zahir Zahir told.

“The foreigners were exercising inside at the time.” “Our teams are on the ground investigating how an attacker on a motorcycle entered the compound.” The nationalities and jobs of the victims was not known, and there was no immediate comment from NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which is winding down its mission after a 13-year war against the Taliban.

“The attack happened inside a joint compound used by the counter narcotics department (of the interior ministry) and foreign forces,” Hashmat Stanakzai, spokesman for Kabul police said.

“Also at around 7:00 am, another bomb exploded (in the same district) slightly wounding one civilian.” Another government official told that the victims worked for a private contractor. The Taliban used a recognised Twitter account to claim responsiblity for the attack, saying 15 “agents” had been killed inside a foreign intelligence base.

The insurgents often exaggerate death tolls after attacks. Afghanistan is on edge as the election dispute between poll rivals Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah threatens to trigger instability and revive ethnic tensions that ravaged the country during the 1992-1996 civil war.

NATO combat troops will withdraw from Afghanistan by December, and reports suggest unrest is already worsening nationwide.

Civilian casualties soared by 24 percent in the first half of 2014, according to recent UN figures, while the International Crisis Group (ICG) has said the “overall trend is one of escalating violence and insurgent attacks”.

The vote audit was part of a deal brokered by US Secretary of State John Kerry to end the political crisis as Ghani and Abdullah both claimed victory.

Who actually is this Ved Prakash Vedik?

News4u-Features Desk- A person who is continuously being discussed in the media for more than a week has not yet been identified properly. He proclaims himself to be a free lance journalist, visiting all the Asian countries as a state guest. Rahul Gandhi says he is a RSS man. Shiv Sena spokesman calls him Poonam Pande of journalism and the opposition is bent on proving him an emmisary of the BJP governement sent to meet the most wanted terrorist of India, God knows why?

Before we try to label him as this or that, it is of utmost importance to talk about the views that he so firmly exrpressed about the Statehood of Kashmir, which is an integral part of India. The one question that he should be asked is that who ever gave him the right to speak about Kashmir in explicit contrast to the country’s policy concerning this delicate issue.

Whether he met Hafiz Sayeed on his own or as a guest of Pakistani media, are also issues to be probed and put before the public. If, as he says nothing came out of his meeting with this most wanted terrorist of India, then what urged him to seek a meeting with some one who has been behind the killing of hundreds of innocent indians. It can’t be just a child like curiosity to view a terrorist in flesh & blood. Was it, as Ramdev Baba says that he went there to change the mind set of this killer? With all these questions before us, shouldn’t he be labelled as traitor and tried in the court for sedition. Its high time Ved Prakash Vedik opened his cards and let the public see what actual is there in.
