Nupur’s bail plea reserved till Wed

News4u-News Desk- GHAZIABAD: Dentist Nupur Talwar, the mother of murdered teenager Aarushi, would have to spend another night in jail with a special court here reserving till Wednesday its order on her bail plea.

The special Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) court heard arguments from Nupur Talwar’s lawyer and those of the CBI on her bail plea and reserved its order till Wednesday.

Nupur Talwar, who spent Monday night at the Dasna Jail, was not in court as her lawyers argued that she be given bail. Her husband,Rajesh Talwar, who is already out on bail, was not in court either as Special CBI Judge S. Lal heard the bail application.

Nupur Talwar’s lawyers argued that there was no scientific evidence against her in the twin murders of her 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj on May 16, 2008, at their Noida residence. While Aarushi’s body, with her throat slit, was discovered first, the body of Hemraj was found later from the terrace of the house.

If the main gate was bolted from outside, they said, how could the CBI justify its stance ruling out involvement of an outsider. The third point put forward was that Nupur Talwar was the mother of a child and she had bought her a camera just a day earlier.

The CBI argued that the Talwars had tampered with evidence. IANS

I won’t quit cricket for politics: Sachin Tendulkar

News4u - Sports Desk : PUNE: Putting to rest all speculation about his joining politics following his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday said he was not quitting cricket to join politics and will always remain a sportsman.

Speaking for the first time after he was nominated for a Rajya Sabha seat, Tendulkar acknowledged that the honour bestowed on him was for his contribution to the field of cricket.

“I am not a politician. I am a sportsman and will always remain one. I am not going to enter politics giving up cricket, which is my life. I will continue to play cricket,” he said during a felicitation function by a private firm here.

Tendulkar said many eminent persons, including melody queen Lata Mangeshkar and actor Prithviraj Kapoor too, had been nominated by the President for their contribution in their respective fields.

“Cricket is my expertise. I would like to contribute to that field. I am a sportsman and I will always be a sportsman,” he said.

Replying to a question on his scoring the 100th international hundred, Sachin said winning the World Cup was his most cherished dream, for which, he waited for close to 22 years.

“John Wright (the then coach) had told me in 2003 that I could become the first player to score hundred centuries. One has to keep chasing dreams till they come true,” said Tendulkar.

“Sometimes, success is waiting round the corner and one should always think of taking that extra step to achieve it,” he said.

Recalling the wild celebrations in the country when India won the World Cup last year, Tendulkar said, “Outside the stadium, my driver told me that fans are dancing on my car. I told him not to stop them. I did not worry about the dents to the car. The Cup had brought the whole country together and it was the greatest day of my life.”

On his handling pressure situations, Tendulkar said, “While batting, it is important to concentrate on the present moment without thinking of the problems faced in the past. You have half a second to react while facing the next ball. One has to keep the mind blank and heart rate down to make the right decision.”

He told the audience that their good wishes were important for him to keep going.

“I am passionate about cricket. Cricket is my life. Keep praying for me so that I can derive strength from them. I pray to God to guide me in making right decisions,” he said, hinting that he has no intentions of retirement at this juncture of his career.PTI

Beer is Nice to Heart

News4u - Features Desk : Moderate and regular consumption of beer, like wine, can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, Italian researchers say.

The study conducted by Research Laboratories at the Fondazione di Ricerca e Cura “Giovanni Paolo II”, in Campobasso, Italy, confirmed what was already known about wine: a moderate consumption (approximately two glasses per day for men and one for women) can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, up to 31 per cent less when comparing to non drinkers.

What this research adds are new data on beer. For the first time, in fact, evidence about dose-dependent effect is shown for this beverage.

Maximum protection is observed, for a beer containing 5 percent of alcohol, with a consumption of slightly more than an English pint a day.

“In our research we considered wine and beer separately: you first observe a reduction in cardiovascular risk with low to moderate drinking,” explained Simona Costanzo, first author of the study.

“Then, with an increasing consumption, you can see that the advantage disappears, until the risk gets higher. The interesting part of our research is that, among the studies selected for this meta-analysis, there were 12 in which wine and beer consumption could be compared directly. Using these data we were able to observe that the risk curves for the two beverages are closely overlapping,” she stated.

But beer as well as wine, drinkers, should be cautious before toasting too much at these results.

Augusto Di Castelnuovo, head of the Statistic Unit of Research Laboratories and a pioneer inalcohol epidemiological studies pointed out, “What we are talking about is moderate and regular drinking. I think we will never stress enough this concept.”

“Wine or beer are part of a lifestyle. One glass can pair with healthy foods, eaten at proper time, maybe together with family of friends. There is no place for binge drinking or any other form of heavy consumption,” he added.ANI

When a reason to split leaves you in splits

News4u-Feature Desk- LONDON: In her 30-odd years as a divorce lawyer, Vanessa Lloyd Platt has heard it all. The woman who sued for divorce because her husband insisted she dress in a Klingon costume and speak to him in Klingon.

The man who declared that his wife had maliciously and repeatedly served him his least favorite dish, tuna casserole. “It’s insane ,” Lloyd Platt said. “These things should not have any part in the procedure.” But they come up all the time in England, which unlike every state in the US does not have a no-fault divorce law.

In one recent case, the husband accused his wife of spitefully tampering with the TV antenna and throwing away his cold cuts. She said he usurped her control of the washing machine and failed to appreciate her revulsion for “intensely farmed meat.” As the couple, Susan andDouglas Rae, aired the mundane details of their imploding marriage last month in London’s court of appeal, the judge in the case criticized English divorce law for allowing such picayune matters to become an issue at all.

If the government had enacted past proposals to allow no-fault divorce, the judge, justiceMatthew Thorpe, told the court, “there would have been no need for these painful investigations, which seem to represent the social values of a bygone age.” He granted Mr. Rae’s petition for divorce, despite Mrs. Rae’s argument that their problems were “normal squabbling between husband and wife” and not deal-breakingly bad.

Under the current English law, divorces are granted only under one of five categories, including adultery and abandonment . About half of the cases fall under a broad category called unreasonable behavior, in which one party has to accuse the other of acting so unreasonably that living together has become intolerable.

Get fit with this easy rule: Walking

News4u-News Desk- Every get-fit plan should start with a basic 30-minute daily walk for 30 days. It will prime your body for the muscle-toning and stamina-building exercises you need in order to go from couch potato to hot property. Cheat or skip this simple step and you run the risk of injuring yourself and falling off the fitness wagon.

First things first
According to experts, an out-of-shape muscle is deficient in two things: tiny power house factories (called mitochondria) that generate juice for your workouts, and contractile proteins that give the muscle strength. And walking for 30 minutes a day – or for 10 minutes three times a day – for a month replenishes mitochondria and contractile proteins, so your body will be ready and able to build on your fitness routine. Find out how an “easy” walk can still help you lose weight.

Take the next step
When you’re ready to expand your exercise program, follow these guidelines for sculpting a lean, healthy body:

- After 30 days of walking, add 10 minutes of resistance training, focusing on the large muscle groups of your body (back, abs, quads, glutes, shoulders, and hamstrings) every other day.

- The next month, add another 10 minutes of resistance training, hitting your remaining muscle groups (chest, shoulders, and arms) every other day.

Congratulations! After 90 days, you’ll be ready to pull out your cutest workout gear and showoff your fit body. Add 21 minutes of stamina-building exercise to your routine three times a week.toi

Einstein was world’s worst husband: Book

News4u-News Desk- LONDON: Albert Einstein may be regarded as one of the world’s most important scientists but despite his innumerable professional successes, he found it hard to sustain a thriving personal life, according to a new book.

In his book, ‘Einstein: His Life and Universe’,Walter Isaacson has described how Einstein found maintaining a harmonious love life a battle he would never win.

In fact, so pragmatic was Einstein’s approach to love, that when he found his 11-year marriage to fellow scientist Mileva Maric was floundering, he issued a list of outrageous rules that he believed would allow the two to remain together for the sake of the children, the Daily Mail reported.

The list demanded Maric continue to act as maid to him - yet should and not expect affection or attention in return. Einstein was prompted to write the list when, in 1914, he realized that after 11 years, his marriage to first wife Maric - one of the first women to study mathematics and physics in Europe - was destined for failure.

The scientist ordered that she keep his rooms tidy, bring him three meals a day (to be eaten in his room), keep his clothes and laundry in good order, and keep his bedroom and study neat (she should not use his desk, of course).

There would apparently be no benefits to Maric in return. In fact, Einstein he specified in his list of conditions, printed in Isaacson’s book (via website, that she must not expect Einstein to either sit with her, or accompany her outside of the house - and she must stop talking when he requests. She must ‘renounce all personal relations’ not strictly necessary for social reasons - which should not include expecting to be accompanied on social engagements.

Also, Einstein stipulated that his wife should not expect any intimacy from him, should not reproach him in any way; should stop talking to him if he requested it; should leave his bedroom or study immediately without protest if requested, and should refrain from belittling him in front of the children, either through words or behaviour. However, just a few months after he issued his misogynistic manifesto, she left Einstein in Berlin and moved with their sons.

Hans Albert and Eduard (their daughter, Lieserl, born in 1902, was given up for adoption), to Zurich. After five years she filed for divorce and in 1919, it was granted.

Isaacson also divulged how as a young man, Einstein predicted in a letter to the mother of his first girlfriend that the ‘joys of science’ would be a refuge from ‘painful personal emotions’.

As a testimony to that fact, the father of the theory of relativity is known to have had many liaisons throughout his marriage to Maric. In fact, he became involved with Elsa, a first cousin who would become his
second wife, in 1912, when he was still married to his first wife.

Although Einstein married Elsa in 1919, within four years he was already involved with Bette Neumann, his secretary and the niece of one of his friends.

“His conquest of general relativity proved easier than finding the formulas for the forces swirling within his family,” Isaacson said.ANI

Search operation on in Assam ferry mishap

News4u-News Desk-  Rescuers on Tuesday scoured the waters of the Brahmaputra River amidst torrential rain to locate the over 100 missing in Assam’s worst boat disaster that left 103 dead even as authorities feared that the toll may rise.

“The death toll may rise as more than 100 are missing and the exact toll will be known after the search operation,” Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Kumud Chandra Kalita said.

PM announces ex-gratia

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each for next of kin of those killed in the Assam boat tragedy.

“An assistance of two lakh rupees has been announced for the next of kin of each of the deceased in the tragedy from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund,” a PMO statement said.

Rescuers and divers of the Army, BSF and NDRF with speedboats were searching the waters this morning amidst torrential rain which was continuing since last night to locate more bodies as the ferry was carrying over 300 passengers when it was caught in a storm and capsized in Dhubri district on Monday, he said.

“The National Disaster Relief Force, BSF and Army and personnel of the district administration are continuing search operations amidst torrential rain which has continued till this morning,” Kalita said.

The ferry was sailing from Dhubri ferry ghat to Medartary on south bank of the river when it was caught in a storm.

The bodies have been kept at the Dhubri Civil Hospital.

President Pratibha Patil had expressed grief over the loss of lives, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of all help for relief and funds for families of the victims.

The chief minister has already ordered an inquiry.

UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi also expressed her grief over the tragedy that happened in Brahamputra river on Monday.

Another 12 persons were missing in another boat capsize in the same area on Monday.

Al-Qaida’s Europe attack plans found hidden in porn movie

News4u-News Desk-  WASHINGTON: Hundreds of internal al-Qaidadocuments embedded inside a pornographic movie on a memory disk have revealed plots of carrying out attacks in Europe similar to the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Terrorist training manuals in PDF format in German, English and Arabic were among the documents found, according to intelligence sources cited by CNN, which said it had obtained details of the documents.

The German newspaper Die Zeit was the first to report on the discovery of the documents by German cryptologists inside the memory disk found on a suspected al-Qaida operative arrested in Berlin last year, it said.

Interrogators questioning a 22-year-old Austrian named Maqsood Lodin, who had recently returned from Pakistan via Budapest, Hungary, and then travelled overland to Germany were surprised to find a digital storage device and memory cards hidden in his underpants.

Buried inside them was a pornographic video called Kick Ass and a file marked Sexy Tanja.

Several weeks later, German investigators discovered encoded inside the actual video a treasure trove of intelligence - more than 100 al-Qaida documents.

One document called Future Works appears to have been the product of discussions to find new targets and methods of attack, CNN said. German investigators believe it was written in 2009 — and that it remains the template for al-Qaida’s plans.

A year after the document was written, European intelligence agencies were scrambling to investigate a Mumbai style plot involving German and other European militants which sparked an unprecedented US state department travel warning for Americans in Europe.

“I think it is plausible to think that the Future Works document is part of that particular project,” investigative journalist Yassin Musharbash, a reporter with the German newspaper Die Zeit, who was the first to report on the documents, was quoted as saying.

“The document delivers very clearly the notion that al-Qaida knows it is being followed very closely,” Musharbash told CNN.

While Future Works does not include dates or places, nor specific plans, it appears to be a brainstorming exercise to seize the initiative-and reinstate al-Qaida on front pages around the world, it said.IANS

World Trade Center is back on top in New York

News4u-News Desk-  NEW YORK: One World Trade Center, the monolith being built to replace the twin towers destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, claimed the title of New York City’s tallest skyscraper on Monday, as workers erected steel columns that made its unfinished skeleton a little over 1,250 feet (381 meters) high, just enough to peek over the roof of the observation deck on the Empire State Building.

City officials and iron workers applauded as the first 12-ton column was hoisted onto the tower’s top deck.

“This project is much more than steel and concrete. It is a symbol of success for the nation,” said David Samson, chairman of the Port Authority, the agency that owns the World Trade Center.

Clear skies afforded an immaculate 360-degree view from the top, although it wasn’t easy getting up there. After riding an elevator to the 90th floor, a small group of officials and journalists had to climb three steep ladders to reach the top platform, which was encircled by blue netting along the perimeter.

The milestone is a preliminary one. Workers are still adding floors to the building once called the Freedom Tower. It isn’t expected to reach its full height for at least another year, at which point it is likely to be declared the tallest building in the U.S., and third tallest in the world.

Those bragging rights, though, will carry an asterisk.

Crowning the world’s tallest buildings is a little like picking the heavyweight champion in boxing. There is often disagreement about who deserves the belt.

In this case, the issue involves the 408-foot (124.3-meter)-tall needle that will sit on the tower’s roof.

Count it, and the World Trade Center is back on top. Otherwise, it will have to settle for No. 2, after the Willis Tower in Chicago.

“Height is complicated,” said Nathaniel Hollister, a spokesman for The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats, a Chicago-based organization considered an authority on such records.

Experts and architects have long disagreed about where to stop measuring super-tall buildings outfitted with masts, spires and antennas that extend far above the roof.

Consider the case of the Empire State Building: Measured from the sidewalk to the tip of its needle-like antenna, the granddaddy of all skyscrapers actually stands 1,454 feet (443.18 meters) high, well above the mark reached by One World Trade Center on Monday.

Purists, though, say antennas shouldn’t count when determining building height.

An antenna, they say, is more like furniture than a piece of architecture. Like a chair sitting on a rooftop, an antenna can be attached or removed. The Empire State Building didn’t even get its distinctive antenna until 1952.

Excluding the antenna brings the Empire State Building’s total height to 1,250 feet (381 meters). That was still high enough to make the skyscraper the world’s tallest from 1931 until 1972.

From that height, the Empire State seems to tower over the second tallest completed building in New York, the Bank of America Tower.

Yet, in many record books, the two skyscrapers are separated by just 50 feet (15.24 meters).

That’s because the tall, thin mast on top of the Bank of America building isn’t an antenna but a decorative spire.

Unlike antennas, record-keepers like spires. It’s a tradition that harkens back to a time when the tallest buildings in many European cities were cathedrals. Groups like the Council on Tall Buildings, and Emporis, a building data provider in Germany, both count spires when measuring the total height of a building, even if that spire happens to look exactly like an antenna.

This quirk in the record books has benefited buildings like Chicago’s recently opened Trump International Hotel and Tower. It is routinely listed as being up to 139 feet (42.37 meters) taller than the Empire State Building, thanks to the antenna-like mast that sits on its roof, even though the average person, looking at the two buildings side by side, would probably judge the New York skyscraper to be taller.

The same factors apply to measuring the height of One World Trade Center.

Designs call for the tower’s roof to stand at 1,368 feet (416.97 meters) - the same height as the north tower of the original World Trade Center. The building’s roof will be topped with a 408-foot (124.36-meter), cable-stayed mast, making the total height of the structure a symbolic 1,776 feet, referring to America’s founding in 1776.

So is that needle an antenna or a spire?

“Not sure,” wrote Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the building.

The needle will, indeed, function as a broadcast antenna. It is described on the Port Authority’s website as an antenna. On the other hand, the structure will have more meat to it than your average antenna, with external cladding encasing the broadcast mast.

Without that spire, One World Trade Center would still be smaller than the Willis Tower inChicago, formerly known as the Sears Tower, which tops out at 1,451 feet (442.26 meters)(not including its own antennas).

Debate over which of those buildings can truly claim to be the tallest in the U.S. has been raging for years on Internet message boards frequented by skyscraper enthusiasts.

As for the Council on Tall Buildings, it is leaning toward giving One World Trade the benefit of the doubt.

“This is something we have discussed with the architect,” Hollister said. “As we understand it, the needle is an architectural spire which happens to enclose an antenna. We would thus count it as part of the architectural height.”

But, he noted, the organization has also chosen to sidestep these types of disputes, somewhat, by recognizing three types of height records: tallest occupied floor, architectural top and height to the tip.

Hollister also pointed out that, technically speaking, One World Trade Center isn’t a record-holder in any category yet, as it is still unfinished.

“A project is not considered a building until it is topped out, fully clad, and open for business or at least occupiable,” he said.

The debate doesn’t quite end there.

Neither the Willis Tower nor One World Trade are as high as the CN Tower, in Toronto, which stands at 1,815 feet (553.21 meters). That structure, however, isn’t considered a building at all by most record-keepers, because it is predominantly a television broadcast antenna and observation platform with very little interior space. The tallest manmade structure in the Western Hemisphere will continue to be the 2,063-foot (628.8-meter)-tall KVLY-TV antenna in Blanchard, North Dakota.

As for the world’s tallest building, the undisputed champion is the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, which opened in 2010 and reaches 2,717 feet (828.14 meters).

Not counting about 5 feet (1.5 meters) of aircraft lights and other equipment perched on top, of course.AP

Clinton leaves for China, to discuss human rights issue

News4u - News Desk : US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has left for a three-nation Asia tour beginning with Beijing where the top American diplomat hoped to have a wide range of discussions with the Chinese leadership including the issue of human rights.

However, just like the US President Barack Obama, Clinton too refrained from making specific comment on the Chinese dissident who is now believed to have been taking shelter in the US Embassy in Beijing.

“I look forward to traveling to China this evening. We will be going to Beijing for the Strategic and Economic Dialogue. We have a full range of issues that covers all of the political and economic matters that are of concern to our nations and our people,” Clinton said at a news conference on Monday.

“I’m not going to address the specific case at this time, but I just want to put it in a broader context. The US-China relationship is important. It’s important not only to President Obama and me, but it’s important to the people of the United States and the world. And we’ve worked hard to build an effective, constructive, comprehensive relationship that allows us to find ways to work together,” she said.

Commenting further on human rights issue, the US leader said that human rights and the freedom, and free movement of people inside China, who have a right to exercise those freedoms under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are a matter of great concern to the United States.
